Meta Pixel and Tracking Explained for Sellers
4 October 2026 1 min read
What the Meta Pixel does, why sellers use it for ads, and how to use tracking responsibly with visitors' consent.
If you run Facebook or Instagram ads, you will hear about the Meta Pixel. It is a small piece of code that tells Meta which actions people take on your website after seeing your ads.
What the Pixel tracks
Common events include page views, viewing a product, starting checkout and placing an order. This information helps you understand which ads lead to real results.
Why sellers use it
- Measure which ads bring orders.
- Show ads again to people who viewed your products (retargeting).
- Build lookalike audiences similar to your customers.
- Let Meta optimise ads for people more likely to buy.
How to get a Pixel ID
Create a Pixel (dataset) in Meta Events Manager inside your Business account. It gives you an ID number to add to your website or store settings.
Using the Pixel on MoneyEarn
MoneyEarn members and sellers can add their own Pixel ID in their settings. When visitors view or order your products, the events are sent to your Pixel, but only if the visitor accepted cookies.
Respect privacy
Tell visitors about tracking in your privacy and cookie policies, ask for consent where required and never send personal details such as names or phone numbers in tracking events.
Read results carefully
Pixel data is useful but not perfect, especially with privacy settings and ad blockers. Combine it with your real order records.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Meta Pixel free?
Yes. Creating a Pixel in Meta Events Manager is free.
Does the Pixel send customers' personal details?
On MoneyEarn, tracking events do not include names, phone numbers or addresses, and run only when visitors accept cookies.
