How to Submit a Website to Google
4 October 2026 1 min read
Use Google Search Console to verify your site, submit a sitemap and check indexing — and fix what blocks Google first.
Website owners can use Google Search Console to verify site ownership, inspect URLs, submit a sitemap and monitor indexing and search performance.
Step 1: Verify your site
Add your site in Search Console and verify ownership using a DNS record, HTML file or another offered method.
Step 2: Check for blockers
Before submission, make sure pages are accessible, have useful content and are not unintentionally blocked by robots.txt rules or noindex tags.
Step 3: Submit your sitemap
Enter your sitemap URL in the Sitemaps section.
Step 4: Inspect important URLs
Use URL Inspection to see whether a page is indexed and request indexing for new or updated important pages.
Fix problems
Fix canonical and redirect problems where appropriate, and check the Pages report for errors.
Be patient
Search engines decide whether and when to index a page, so submission is not a guarantee of ranking. Review reports over time rather than repeatedly resubmitting unchanged URLs.
Frequently asked questions
How long does Google take to index a new site?
It can take days to weeks. Good content and links from other sites help.
Does submitting a site improve rankings?
