How to Use Google Search Console
4 October 2026 1 min read
Use Search Console to see queries, clicks, indexing and problems — and turn that data into content improvements.
Google Search Console provides information about search queries, impressions, clicks, indexing and certain page experience issues. It is free and essential for any website owner.
The Performance report
See which searches show your pages, how often (impressions), how many people click and your average position.
Find opportunities
- Pages with many impressions but few clicks may need better titles and descriptions.
- Queries you rank for but have no dedicated article for are new content ideas.
Indexing reports
Check which pages are indexed and why others are not, such as noindex tags, redirects or duplicates.
URL Inspection
Inspect individual URLs when diagnosing an issue and check which canonical Google selected.
Limitations
Reports may have delays and do not show every search query.
Use it regularly
Use Search Console as a diagnostic tool rather than a promise of rankings. A monthly review is a good habit.
