• DaVinci Resolve: powerful and free for professional editing and colour.
• Adobe Premiere Pro: industry standard for long videos.
• After Effects: motion graphics and animations.

Skills clients value

Popular services

YouTube video editing, short-form clips from long videos, podcast editing, real estate and product videos, wedding highlights and social media ads.

Hardware

Editing short videos works on a mid-range laptop or even a phone. Long 4K editing needs a stronger computer. Start with what you have and upgrade from earnings.

Build a showreel

Create a one-minute showreel of your best edits. Make sample edits from free stock footage if you have no clients yet.

Finding clients

Message small YouTubers with a free sample edit of one of their videos, offer services on Fiverr and Upwork, and network in creator communities. Reliable delivery leads to long-term monthly clients.

Agree the details before editing

Agree on length, delivery format, revisions, deadlines and file storage before starting. Build samples using footage you own or have permission to use. Practise pacing, audio clean-up, colour correction, export settings and subtitle accuracy, and include rendering time and software costs when quoting.
