Best Freelancing Websites Besides Fiverr and Upwork

Fiverr and Upwork are the best-known freelance platforms, but they are also very competitive. Spreading your presence across other platforms can bring more opportunities.

General freelance marketplaces

• Freelancer.com: large job board with contests and bidding.
• PeoplePerHour: popular with UK clients, good for design, writing and web work.
• Guru: project-based work across many categories.
• Truelancer: a smaller marketplace with many Asian freelancers and clients.

Specialised platforms

• 99designs: design contests and projects.
• Toptal and similar vetted networks: for highly experienced developers and designers after a strict screening.
• ProBlogger and content job boards: for writers.
• Remote job boards: such as We Work Remotely and Remote OK, for long-term remote roles.

Don't forget direct clients

LinkedIn, Facebook groups, Instagram and your own website can bring clients without platform fees. Direct clients need clear agreements and careful payment terms.

How to choose

Pick one main platform and one or two secondary ones. Managing too many profiles at once usually means doing none of them well.

Check before you join

Read each platform's fees, payment methods for Pakistan and rules. Use real details and never pay anyone to "approve" your profile.

How to compare platforms

Each platform has its own fees, competition, identity checks and country rules. Compare marketplaces based on your service category, payment options, dispute process and the quality of available jobs. Create a focused profile that describes outcomes rather than listing every skill, use original portfolio samples and tailor proposals to each project. Never move a platform-protected payment off the platform if that breaks its terms.

Do all freelance platforms accept Pakistani freelancers?

Many do, but check each platform's country rules and payment methods for Pakistan before you sign up.
